BSLA Open House - November 8 Recap
The Chapter had it’s fall open house event at the office of Reed Hilderbrand. A great time was had by over 75 people. It was good to see colleagues and friends and to hear some current thoughts, trends and observations of the profession by the Reed Hilderbrand staff. A special thanks goes out to Doug and Gary for hosting and sponsoring the event, and to Chris Moyles and Mary Glock for facilitating and organizing a fantastic night.

Build Boston 2007
The Landscape Architecture Symposium
Landscape Architecture Day at Build Boston was a huge success, with over 600 people attending the four sessions sponsored by the BSLA. The theme was sustainable site design. Many thanks goes out to the panel moderators and participants.

CTASLA CEU Program: Young Tree Management
The Connecticut Chapter of ASLA is pleased to announce a continuing education program on “Young Tree Management” scheduled for Saturday, December 1, 2007, from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the beautiful Pequot Library in Southport, CT. Presented and sponsored by the pros at SavaTree, this program will discuss young tree pruning as a management strategy for a healthy, sustainable urban forest; tree selection; A300 tree maintenance standards; and new innovative approaches to young tree care. The program will include a classroom session and then concepts will be applied outside in the landscape.

This program is registered for 3 AIA/CES Learning Units (HSW).

Cost: $35 ASLA members / $60 non-members

2008 UMASS Workshop Series:
Environmentally Sound Practices and Products for Managing Trees and Shrubs
This workshop series is designed to educate landscape professionals about the fundamentals of managing trees and shrubs in the landscape. Integrated pest management strategies, including methods based on research with practical application, will be presented. These tactics can be used to determine when pesticide use is appropriate. Instructors will give an overview of the most ecologically sound products available, IPM strategies which utilize cultural practices and resistant varieties. Knowledge is important to the success of an IPM program.
