The Universe in a Garden

The next lecture in the Gardens & Spirit series co-sponsored by Trinity Church and the Arnold Arboretum

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 7, 2009, from 7:00 - 8:30 pm to hear Charles Jencks speak about his design process as it applies to landscapes and how we conceive of the universe.

Known for his books questioning Modern architecture and defining its successors (The Language of Post-Modern Architecture; What is Post-Modernism?; The Architecture of the Jumping Universe; and Iconic Building–the Power of Enigma), Charles Jencks now designs landscapes and sculptures, and writes about cosmogenic art.  His own celebrated garden that he created with his late wife Maggie Keswick in the Borders area of Scotland is not only beautiful but it is also an extraordinary exploration of modern physics and philosophy of the cosmos expressed in landscape.

Tickets for the lecture are $20 members of Trinity Church/Arnold Arboretum, $25 non members.  Purchase tickets online www.arboretum.harvard.edu/adult_ed, in person at The Shop at Trinity, 206 Clarendon Street or over the phone at (617) 536-0944, ext. 225.
