6:30-8:30 pm
VHB, Inc.
101 Walnut Street
Watertown, MA 02472
National trends for greener construction and more comprehensive stormwater quality management are resulting in changes in regulations across the nation. Massachusetts has recently experienced significant changes in stormwater regulations with a focus on groundwater recharge, water quality control and preservation of soils and vegetation. Opportunities for creative landscape architectural design through practices such as porous pavement/pavers, bioretention areas and rainwater recovery are becoming more common on sites across the country. A discussion of the new regulations, examples from multiple VHB Low Impact Development jobs will be presented and a discussion of how the change towards low impact development, stormwater management site features impact current practices for landscape architects, developers, engineers, contractors and agencies. Focus points for discussion will be maintaining site features for sustainability, new landscape and engineering designs as well as long term operation and maintenance of LID practices.
