The BSLA seeks to recognize excellence in the diverse practices of our members. To that end, please submit your best work for review by the program jury.

Tour Guides

Claire Humber - Claire has been a part of the SE team for over seventeen years, and has worked at mountain resorts throughout Canada and the United States, Scandinavia, Korea and Japan. Claire is a ‘big picture’ strategic thinker, and balances her creative approach to planning and design with the practicality of project management, implementation and eventual operations. This balance allows clients to realize their vision and project goals, while working within the reality of physical, social, economic, environmental and practical considerations. Claire has been working with the folks at Stowe since they first started contemplating the Spruce Peak development in 1995.

Michael Willard - Michael is an integral member of the SE Group construction documentation and management team. Michael’s technical skills and in-depth knowledge of materials and construction techniques allows him to guide clients work through difficult design challenges during project implementation. Mike’s creative yet practical design approach allows SE Group’s clients to create memorable and functional environments, while balancing the challenges of operating a resort on a day to day and seasonal basis. Mike has been the PM for the Spruce Peak at Stowe since the development’s inception in 2003.

This program will include presentations by Stony Creek Quarry Corp., Indiana Limestone Company, Semco Distributor, Inc., Continental Cast Stone and O&G Industries.
Learning Objectives:
- The application process of quarried granite in a landscape design project.
- Large-scale custom installation procedures using granite
- Green aspects and properties of thin cut natural stone veneers in landscape projects.
- Installation of thin cut veneers in landscape applications.
- The most common uses of limestone in landscape designs.
- Proper limestone installation and overcoming mistakes.
- Anchoring and connection details relevant to cast stone trim and veneer installation applications for landscape use.
Program will include continental breakfast and lunch.
Program qualifies for four AIA/CES Learning Units (HSW). CTASLA is an approved New York State provider of continuing education for landscape architects; the subject area of this program is acceptable for continuing education credits in New York State.

ASLA 2009 Professional and Student Awards -
Call for Entries
Each year, the ASLA Professional Awards honor the best in landscape architecture from around the globe, while the ASLA Student Awards give us a glimpse into the future of the profession.
Award recipients receive featured coverage in Landscape Architecture magazine and in many other design and construction industry and general interest media. Award recipients, their clients, and advisors will be honored at the Awards Presentation Ceremony followed by a special champagne event during the ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Chicago, September 18-21, 2009.
The prestige of the ASLA awards program relies in large part on the high-caliber juries that are convened each year to review submissions.

Call for Display Garden Proposals - Deadline February 27
The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens invites landscape architects, landscape designers, nursery owners/operators,
and other garden professionals to submit proposals to design and build outdoor display gardens for its second annual
Garden Fair.
This multifaceted event takes inspiration from the world's best and most famous flower shows and garden fairs
including Chelsea and Philadelphia while remaining true to our Maine heritage. The event will take place at the
Gardens in Boothbay, Maine from Friday, June 19 – Sunday, June 21, 2009.
The display gardens are to be installed on the Central Campus. In honor of the grand opening of the Lerner Garden
of the Five Senses (June 19), the theme for 2009 is “A Delight for the Senses.”

The Heritage Documentation Programs (Historic American Buildings
Survey/Historic American
Engineering Record/Historic American Landscapes Survey), a division of the
National Park
Service, seeks applications from qualified individuals for summer
employment documenting
historic sites and structures of architectural, engineering and landscape
significance throughout
the country. Duties involve on-site field work and the preparation of
measured and interpretive
drawings and written historical reports for the HABS/HAER/HALS Collection
at the Prints
and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. Projects last twelve
weeks, beginning in
May/June. Salaries range from approximately $6,000 to approximately $11,000
for the summer,
depending on job responsibility, locality of the project, and level of
experience. Applicants must
be U.S. Citizens.
